This weekend will be an exciting one at BIAV! We are hosting Rabbi Dr. Akiva Tatz, world renowned author and speaker. Rabbi Tatz has authored many popular books including Living Inspired and the Thinking Jewish Teenager’s Guide to Life that we give to Bar and Bat Mitzvah celebrants.
On that note, we are also celebrating this weekend the Bar Mitzvah of Raz Cohen, son of Doron and Michal Cohen. Michael teaches at HBHA and the family recently joined BIAV.
This coming week will be action packed as well, with our Yeshiva University Summer Experience program students arriving on Sunday. Shavuot begins Tuesday evening, and we once again have an exciting array of programming.
Shavuot night BIAV will hold its own Tikkun Leil Shavuot, with a program for children grades 2-5 led by the YU students at 11pm, a shiur by Rabbi Schulgasser at 12am, followed by an interactive learning program by the YU students at 1am.
Dr. Ayala Zoltan Rockoff will deliver a shiur for women at the home of Mindy Wajcman on the first day of Shavuot in the afternoon, at 5:15pm. The shiur is entitled Themes in the Book of Ruth.
Please note that we will be accepting the second day of Yom Tov “early.” This means that we will daven mincha at 6:45pm on Wednesday afternoon, followed by Maariv. You may then light candles and prepare your evening meal after 7:08pm.
The final day of Shavuot we will read Megillat Ruth at approximately 10am, and Yizkor will be approximately 10:45am.
And finally our annual Children’s D’var Torah program will take place the second day of Shavuot in the afternoon. Mincha will be at 5:45pm, followed by the program at 6:15pm, followed by a festive meal sponsored by Ron and Ellen Dimbert. This event is always a highlight of the year and it is always such a joy to hear our children offer words of Torah on the holiday of our receiving of the Torah. That’s what it’s all about!
